Haven Elementary School students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how the school and parents/families will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

Jointly Developed

Input was received from families, teachers, and students in helping to create a School-Family Compact tailored to the needs of our students. This input is provided via the Family Forum held the Spring of each school year, the Annual Evaluation Survey, and feedback given at meetings throughout the year.

To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand the District’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s Goals:

● To ensure all students are college and career ready

● To provide a supportive learning environment that is conducive to teaching and learning

● To maximize family and community engagement that contributes to advancement of student success

● To build professional capacity in order to achieve a premier, student- focused workforce

Haven Elementary School Goals:

The percentage of Haven Hornet students in grades K-5 meeting their annual stretch growth in reading and math will increase by 3-5% from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025 as measured by the I-Ready Diagnostic Assessment.

Reading:  2nd Grade 23% to 28%

Math:  2nd Grade 12% to 17%

Activities To Build Partnerships:

Haven Elementary School offers ongoing events and programs to build partnerships with families. Partnership examples could include two or more of the following:

  • Grade Level Parent Orientation Night
  • School-Family Events
  • Family Resource Center
  • Family Workshops
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences

To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to:

School/Teacher Responsibilities:

Haven Elementary School will:

  • Ensure students have grade level appropriate reading materials to read 20 minutes per night, 4 days a week, as well as a list of general comprehension questions, to be asked by a family member.
  • Provide resources and activities for family member to help student practice math facts and concepts at home, such as adding and subtracting numbers.
  • Supply a weekly list of spelling and vocabulary words for students to practice at home 4 days a week with a family member.
  • Update PowerSchool regularly.
  • 1% set-aside for parent and family engagement activities
  • Each year, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System reserves 1% from the total amount of the Title I, Part A funds it receives to carry out family engagement requirements.
Parent/Family Responsibilities:

We, as parents, will:

  • Make sure my child reads 20 minutes per day at home, at least 4 days a week, and ensure child is comprehending what they read by asking questions about the reading.
  • Help my child learn math facts and concepts, using resources and activities provided by teacher, to accurately answer addition and subtraction problems.
  • Help my child practice their spelling and vocabulary words at least 4 days a week, by using the teacher provided list of words.
  • Review PowerSchool with my child regularly and discuss updates.
Student Responsibilities:

I, the student, will:

  • Read for at least 20 minutes per day at home, 4 days per week, and answer the questions that my family member asks me about what I read.
  • Practice adding and subtracting quickly using mental math strategies.
  • Practice my spelling and vocabulary words with a family member at least 4 days a week.
  • Review PowerSchool with a family member regularly to understand the importance of my grades.
