Haven Elementary School students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how the school and parents/families will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

Jointly Developed 

Input was received from families, teachers, and students in helping to create a School-Family Compact tailored to the needs of our students. This input is provided via the Family Forum held the Spring of each school year, the Annual Evaluation Survey, and feedback given at meetings throughout the year.

To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand the District’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s Goals:

● To ensure all students are college and career ready

● To provide a supportive learning environment that is conducive to teaching and learning

● To maximize family and community engagement that contributes to advancement of student success

● To build professional capacity in order to achieve a premier, student- focused workforce

Haven Elementary School Goals:

The percentage of Haven Hornet students in grades K-5 meeting their annual stretch growth in reading and math will increase by 3-5% from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025 as measured by the I-Ready Diagnostic Assessment.

Reading:  4th Grade 16% to 21%

Math:  4th Grade 6% to 11%

Activities To Build Partnerships:

Haven Elementary School offers ongoing events and programs to build partnerships with families. Partnership examples could include two or more of the following:

  • Grade Level Parent Orientation Night
  • School-Family Events
  • Family Resource Center
  • Family Workshops
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences

To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to:

School/Teacher Responsibilities:

Haven Elementary School will:

  • Ensure students have grade level appropriate reading material to read for 20 minutes, 4 nights a week, as well as a list of general comprehension questions to be asked by a family member.
  • Provide online resources to assist students with practicing multiplication and division facts up to 12 and other math concepts.
  • Supply a weekly list of vocabulary words to families and students to incorporate into conversations.
  • Provide weekly writing prompts and writing response questions.
  • Update PowerSchool regularly.
  • 1% set-aside for parent and family engagement activities
  • Each year, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System reserves 1% from the total amount of the Title I, Part A funds it receives to carry out family engagement requirements.
Parent/Family Responsibilities:

We, as parents, will:

  • Make sure that my child reads for 20 minutes a night, at least 4 nights a week, and ensure that my child is comprehending what they read by asking them questions from list provided.
  • Help my child learn multiplication and division facts up to 12 and other math concepts, using flashcards and online resources supplied by the teacher.
  • Practice weekly vocabulary words and definitions with my child and work on incorporating the words into conversations.
  • Help my child improve their writing skills using the writing prompts and response questions provided by the teacher.
  • Review PowerSchool with my child regularly and discuss updates.
Student Responsibilities:

I, the student, will:

  • Read for 20 minutes, at least 4 days a week at home, and answer the questions that my family member asks me about what I read.
  • Practice multiplication and division math facts up to 12 and other math concepts through homework and online resources (Khan Academy) that my teacher gives me.
  • Practice my weekly vocabulary words and use those words when I talk with my family.
  • Practice improving my writing skills using the writing prompts and response questions given to me by my teacher.
  • Review PowerSchool with a family member regularly to understand the importance of my grades.
