Haven Elementary School students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how the school and parents/families will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

Jointly Developed

Input was received from families, teachers, and students in helping to create a School-Family Compact tailored to the needs of our students. This input is provided via the Family Forum held the Spring of each school year, the Annual Evaluation Survey, and feedback given at meetings throughout the year.

To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand the District’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.

Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s Goals:

● To ensure all students are college and career ready

● To provide a supportive learning environment that is conducive to teaching and learning

● To maximize family and community engagement that contributes to advancement of student success

● To build professional capacity in order to achieve a premier, student- focused workforce

Haven Elementary School Goals:

The percentage of Haven Hornet students in grades K-5 meeting their annual stretch growth in reading and math will increase by 3-5% from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025 as measured by the I-Ready Diagnostic Assessment.

Reading: 4th Grade 16% to 21%

Math: 4th Grade 6% to 11%

Activities To Build Partnerships:

Haven Elementary School offers ongoing events and programs to build partnerships with families. Partnership examples could include two or more of the following:

  • Grade Level Parent Orientation Night
  • School-Family Events
  • Family Resource Center
  • Family Workshops
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences

To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to:

School/Teacher Responsibilities:

Haven Elementary School will:

  • Ensure students have grade-level appropriate reading material for home and are provided comprehension questions to be asked by the family member.
  • Provide activities and assign homework with clear directions and examples, to increase student’s fluency in math facts, skills, and operations in line with standards such as fractions, decimals, multiplication, and division.
  • Distribute biweekly newsletters featuring reading and math resources that families can use to review at home.
  • Update PowerSchool regularly.
Parent/Family Responsibilities:

We, as parents, will:

  • Make sure that my child reads for 30 minutes a night, at least 4 nights a week, utilize teacher provided online resources, and ensure that my child is comprehending what they read by asking them questions provided by teacher.
  • Help my child quickly and accurately know multiplication facts, division facts, math skills, and math concepts, using activities and homework provided by teacher.
  • Look for biweekly newsletter to use the resources provided to review reading comprehension and math facts with my child.
  • Review PowerSchool with my child regularly and discuss updates.
Student Responsibilities:

I, the student, will:

  • At least 4 nights a week, work on iReady Reading Path for 15 minutes, read for 15 minutes, and discuss what I read and answer comprehension questions that my family member asks me.
  • Work on increasing fluency for multiplication and division: completing math skills and concepts, using activities and homework assignments given to me by my teacher.
  • Bring home biweekly newsletters to practice reading and math using resources provided.
  • Review PowerSchool with a family member regularly to understand the importance of my grades.
